Owning a dog can be a troublesome endeavour, certainly one that requires time, patience and a lot of nurturing. However, a robotic version of a dog can be just as challenging as well according to Podpadstudios…

Dare You Build Your Own Tin Dog?

The company (who build television and film robots to raise money for charity) has created a replica version of our beloved K-9 and as you can see from the video that they provide, he certainly works a lot faster than he did when he was on set with Tom Baker in fact he even looks a bit more sprightly than when he appeared in School Reunion or The Sarah Jane Adventures!

The full rundown of how this model was built and what kind of materials were needed to create him can be found on the popular DIYer website Instructables, as well as a little bit of history behind the model’s genesis.

You can also see other examples of their work, including a model of Dalek Caan with a very creepy moving eyeball!

The K-9 model is endorsed by Mat Irvine and John Leeson and they’ve even signed the outside of the little fella to prove it!

If you fancy trying to make your own version of K-9 you can access the PDF blueprints handed over by the BBC from Podpadstudios.
