Fancy your work being judged by Nikki Wilson, producer of Doctor Who Series 8? Well, you’re in luck.
The Screenwriting Goldmine Awards is looking for new, talented screenwriters to impress a host of 24 industry professionals on the judging panel – but you’ve got to be fast because the absolute latest submission date is Thursday 8th May. In fact, the standard deadline has already passed. It does cost, but it may just be worth it; the awards give you potential access to some very influential people in the TV biz. Aside from cash prizes, some will also win the chance to have meetings with a range of people, including Roberto Troni, commissioning editor for Channel 4 Drama; Literary agent for Sayle Screen, Matthew Bates; and producer, Steve Matthews. If you’re in the top 5 finalists, you get to pick whichever person you think will help most with your writing.
The finalists will be announced across September and October, and the overall winner on 30th October.
Basically, you have to send them 45-120 pages of script, pay a fee, and twiddle your thumbs for a bit. Well, okay, so there are more rules than that, but they’re obvious ones, like: don’t rewrite Dickens, it’s got to be written in English (no translations), and you’ve got to be over 18.
It’s a very cool opportunity, folks.
Phil Gladwin, organiser and writer of The Sarah Jane Adventures’ Warriors of Kudlak, says:
“It’s a pretty exciting prospect to consider that each of these judges is guaranteed to read every single one of the short-listed scripts. Trust me, that’s the sort of access to pure power that can change your life.”
